Our 2009 AGM was held at the California Culinary Academy’s Potrero Hill
Campus on January 14. President Joyce Jue welcomed attendees as she and
the Board reviewed the many events and achievements of the organization
over the last year.
Fiscally, the SFPFS had a balanced budget of $60,000, with a higher net
income than expected due to higher membership and lower expenses. We
were able to award more community service funds than ever, donating to:
• San Francisco Village Northside, an innovative, non-profit membership
organization that provides the benefits of a retirement community to
older adults to enable them to age in their own homes. Urban Tilth in
West Contra Costa County.
• Urban Tilth, who works to cultivate urban agriculture to help West
Contra Costa County create a more sustainable, healthy, and just local
food system. They work with schools, non-profits, government agencies,
businesses, and individuals to develop the capacity to produce 5% of our
own food supply.
• The Bread Project provides marketable skills and employment assistance
to low income and at-risk individuals through the world of baking and
cooking.
• SF Food Bank and Food Runners
• An annual $1000 scholarship in honor of Lucie Bookbinder, co-founder
of the Bread Project was awarded to Stephen Moran, a culinary student at
the Institute of Technology Culinary Academy, Roseville, CA

first SFPFS Lifetime Achievement Award to Weezie Mott. The assembly
honored Weezie’s extempore speech with a standing ovation. (please see
