Marion Cunningham, Marian Burros & John Carroll

Marion Cunningham and Marian Burros, whose careers have taken quite different paths through the years, converged for a single cause on April 28th at the Food Society's most recent Stirring the Pot.

Cunningham, a founding member of the SFPFS, has become a self-described "missionary" for home cooking and for the importance of families, or any people living under the same roof, gathering at table to share food. Cunningham's upcoming Lost Recipes, to be published this fall, stresses that good food, prepared and shared at home, cannot only make us happier but more civil as well. As Cunningham said, "Our culture and our values are passed on around the table. Food is more than fodder."

Burros is a New York Times columnist whose recent books have focused on recipes that are foolproof and good tasting, with an emphasis on efficiency. Her latest tome, Cooking for Comfort, is filled with dishes that bring nostalgic, lasting pleasure to cooking at home, without counting the minutes spent at the stove.
