	Upcoming Events Recent Events Calendar Regional Groups Calendar Archive About SIGS	SFPFS Cooking Teacher SIG Meeting July 22, 2008 By Ann Wheeler The Cooking Teacher SIG met at the home of Cheryl Loring in Alameda on July 22nd. Cheryl laid a sumptuous Mediterranean table to celebrate the golden summer evening. Cheryl gave us a tour of her kitchen, which she had designed specifically for teaching and entertaining. Cheryl was happy to share the wonderful recipe for Michael Chiarello’s olive oil cake, which was a great hit on the buffet table. Our evening’s topic was pricing, and members had much to share of their hard-won experience and insights. Cheryl and Mike Loring had in-depth information on the work they do offering classes for children. Carl Drosky talked about his many years of work with Viking Home Chef, teaching both adults and children, and had great information to share on affordable liability insurance for cooking teachers. Karen Gilbert gave a précis of her one-on-one work as a personal chef/teacher/nutritional counselor. Dan Leff had wonderful ideas for how to handle difficult students while enhancing the social experience for his clients. Joyce Jue, our current President, gave us an extensive review of her teaching career from its very beginning through her travel adventures with students and shared many lessons learned of what has worked best for her and what has proved to be not as worthwhile. At this point in her career, Joyce prefers to teach at cooking schools, rather than in clients’ homes. Joyce had several suggestions for teaching opportunities, ranging from cruise ships to team building events for corporations. Meetings of the Cooking Teacher SIG are held every 2 months on the third Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting will be on September 16th and will be a tour of Copia in Napa.
