The San Francisco Professional Food Society's first-ever gala event, REEL FOOD: An Insider's Guide to Cooking in the Movies, attracted a full house to San Francisco's famed Castro Theatre on Monday, November 10. This one-night-only food and film extravaganza, emceed by KRON-TV's Jan Wahl, celebrated both professional and amateur chefs with a cinematic exploration of culinary arts and a star-studded chef's reception in the Castro Mezzanine. ![]() ![]() Chefs Altman and Heffernan ![]() SFPFS President, Rosemary Furfaro, addressing the crowd at the Castro The event kicked off with local chef and Bay Café host Joey Altman and Ritz Carlton Executive Chef Kerry Heffernan's hysterical "he said/she said" commentary during a big screen presentation of some of the most infamous cooking scenes from American and foreign films. Next on the menu was San Francisco filmmaker Cecil Feeder's new documentary, "Our Lady of Tamale," a short film celebrating Mission District icon Virginia Ramos. Housekeeper by day and homemade tamale maker by night, Virginia is famous for providing hot tamales to hungry South of Market bar patrons. ![]() ![]() The Poster, and Virginia Ramos, the Tamale Lady, and star of "Our Lady of Tamale".
