SAN MATEO
San Mateo Regional Networking Blurb
By: Peggy Fallon
May 22, 2008

Twelve SFPFS members gathered at Atherton Culinary in Burlingame on Thursday, April 24, 2008. The meeting was a casual potluck, with members bringing either wine or food to share.

Most of the time was spent discussing what each member does for a living and comparing notes on other aspects of our businesses. There was a lot of very productive networking with members learning how each might benefit from another’s expertise. At the end of the evening, fortified with fabulous ice cream brought by one of our newest members, Sheri Tate, we all swapped business cards and expressed an interest in meeting again. Barb Shenson, Atherton’s showroom manager, offered use of the showroom for future meetings.

SOUTH BAY
South Bay Members Connect Over Food, Wine, and Cherries
By Cheryl Sternman Rule

For those of us in the South Bay, attending a Food Society networking event close to home meant more than saving gas (though let’s be frank: that was pretty nice). It also meant we could begin to forge professional connections with members who live relatively close by. We were all grateful to SFPFS president Joyce Jue for spearheading the event.

On Thursday, April 24, fourth generation cherry grower and specialty retailer Deborah Olson hosted six of us in her bright, cherry-themed Sunnyvale home. Rita Held, Laura Stec, Pam Thuman-Commike, Joyce, and I all contributed light fare to the meal, and we ended, appropriately, with Deborah’s chocolate cherry-and-almond clusters and homemade cherry pie. We got down to business while we nibbled.

Joyce emphasized that the Food Society wants to reach out to members who live outside San Francisco and to bring them more firmly into the fold. As a group we discussed which recent events we’d attended and whether geography, or program content, determined which we’d attend in the future. (The answer?  Both.)

We agreed to meet roughly once per quarter as a group -- and to form, in essence, a regional SIG with Deborah as our official liaison to the board.

We will meet again in July 2008 and welcome others in the area to join us.
