Activities and events available to members
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Provides members and their guests the opportunity to attend our annual business meeting, listen to the incoming President’s address, learn more about important decisions and election results, and meet new members. This meeting often has a learning component and dinner. A previous AGM was held at China Live, with a panel discussion on the Future of Chinese Cuisine.
Our yearly gathering brings together members and their guests in a casual setting featuring local food and drink and organized entertainment.
Members gather throughout the year for lively discussions on a specific food topic or career interest. Past events have included: Remembering James Beard at Sanford Court, Ice Cream Social with Humphry Slocombe, and Flavor Flours: A Conversation with Alice Medrich.
Private Dining Events
Known as our Traveling Table series, members and their guests dine in some of the Bay Area’s most intriguing restaurants to explore cuisines and trends. Oftentimes, the owner or chef will lead with a presentation and prepare dishes not seen on their regular menus. Past events included: Oren’s Hummus and Sous Beurre Kitchen.
Leading food and wine experts discuss key issues and emerging trends shaping the food industry. A reception featuring related foods often follows. Former guests have included Martin Yan, Jacques Pepin, Marion Nestle, Michael Bauer, Marian Burros, Marion Cunningham, Thomas Keller, Hubert Keller, Michael Mina, Bradley Ogden, Gerald Asher, Dean Ornish, and Harold McGee.
Trips to restaurants, facilities, farms, wineries and neighborhoods provide an experiential learning experience for members. Past tours have included Tofu Yu, Sysco, Blue Bottle Coffee, St. Supery, Cowgirl Creamery, Mycopia Mushrooms and Oakland Spice Shop.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Formed and led by members themselves, SIGs offer the opportunity to explore areas of shared professional interest. Participants typically meet in member homes on a schedule established by the group. Current and past SIGs include Book Group, Wine Tasting, Recipe Developers, Food Writers, and Food Photography.
